Motorola One Macro review

Motorola has launched new smartphones in India recently with the Motorola One Macro being the latest. Coming at Rs. 9,999. the Motorola One Macro comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ display, MediaTek Helio P70 SoC, triple-camera setup, 4,000mAh battery, and with a macro lens being the biggest USP of this device. Design and display

The Motorola One Macro comes with a similar design as the Motorola One Vision and Motorola One Action. Although it is not having a 21:9 aspect ratio display, it has still managed to get a 19:9 aspect. The device has got a 6.2-inch HD+ display with noticeable bezels on the front. On the top, there is a waterdrop notch packing a selfie camera. All the buttons now reside on the right. The volume buttons got their place higher on the edge while the power button has got a different finish which makes it easy to distinguish. On the left, there is a hybrid dual-SIM tray. The top has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a secondary microphone while the primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grille are at the bottom. The back panel sports three cameras and the macro sensor is on the top which is also the USP of this device. It is a vertical camera module with a metallic-kind rim around the lens. Also, there is a fingerprint scanner on the back which is easy to reach and is responsive. The scanner has Motorola’s logo too. The back is glossy plastic and is a fingerprint magnet. Coming to the display, the Motorola One Macro packs a 6.2-inch HD+ display with 270ppi on the top. Performance

Under the hood, the Motorola One Macro has the MediaTek Helio P70 SoC which is coupled with 4 gigs of RAM. This is an octa-core chip having quad ARM Cortex-A73 cores and quad Cortex-A53 ones. There is an integrated Mali-G72 GPU clocked at 900mHz for graphics handling. The device comes with 64GB of storage which is expandable using the hybrid SIM slot.

The device runs stock Android 9 Pie out of the box with the September security patch. Surprisingly, the brand hasn’t gone for Android 10 yet. Using this device, you won’t get any lag or shuttering and this device can easily handle multitasking. Switching between apps is easy. On the benchmarks, this device scored just decently. On the AnTuTu test, the Motorola One Macro scored 1, 37,062 which is lower than the Xiaomi Mi A3, which scored 1, 41,132.

Cameras

Talking about the cameras, the Motorola One Macro has a triple camera setup including a 2-megapixel Macro sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and 1.75-micron pixel size, a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f/2.0 aperture and 1.12-micron pixel size, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. For selfies, there is an 8-megapixel selfie shooter with an f/2.2 aperture and 1.12-micron pixel size. Photos clicked with this device look just decent and distant objects lacked details when you zoom in on them. This is not the best camera device at this price range but just a decent one.

Battery Life

The Motorola One Macro is packing a high-capacity 4,000mAh battery which can be termed as above decent. In the HD video loop test, this mobile lasted for nearly 17 hours and 30 minutes. The device on casual usage can last for a day and a half which makes it a competitive contender in the market space. The supplied charger is 10W which can take the device up to 28 percent in 30 minutes and up to 50 percent in an hour. The device can be charged fully in two hours. Final Verdict

Motorola One Macro is having one and only one USP- the macro camera that takes really good close-up shots. The device comes with clean stock Android, a powerful Mediatek Helio P70 SoC, and 4 gigs of RAM and good onboard storage. Although this device is not a part of Google’s Android One programme. The cameras are decent but in low light, they could have been better. Sticking to its name Macro, the macros were really nice. However, this device has got competition from Realme 5 which is having a macro and a wide-angle camera at a lower price than One Macro. There are many other phones in this segment to offer an overall experience- so choose wisely!
